Bicentenary of Commencement of Closing of First Settlement.

Following the commencement of European settlement on Norfolk Island in 1788, many soldiers and emanicipated convicts too up land, and a sizeable community developed. Norfolk was an expensive and difficult outpost to serve, and it was decided to close it down, and transfer the majority of residents, including convicts to Tasmania.
